Latest Assignment

I’m excited because I’ve been given a new challenge.  A fellow blogger has a child that stays in a long-term care facility.  She’s asked me to paint something for his room.  He has neurological issues, so I want something bright and colorful, but I’m also considering including a lot of texture to really make the piece something he can experience with touch as well as vision.  So many kids with neuro issues struggle with their vision—I want this to be easy to enjoy. It’s going to be a bit of project because the child is in Maine and I NOTHING about Maine.  Research is definitely in order.

permalink Well, I’ve continued to work on that Jazzy J and I think it’s about finished.  I like the style, but I think that I would definitely have to work in a larger format.  Of course, that’s just what I’m thinking right now.  I’ll mull it over for a while until I make my final decision.  I was fun to experiment with a new style, though.

permalink Working on a new style of alphabet letter here—I think this would be called a Jazzy Style.  I’ll probably call it the Jazzy Alphabet.  Still in process on this one, but I like where it’s going.

Excitement

Big things are in the works here in Red Bean Land and I couldn’t be more excited.  If things go as planned, my custom alphabet canvases and Fleur de Pea stationery will be available at a local store before the end of the month.  I’m so thrilled that my work will finally be available at a retail location.

In other news, I’ve been working on some articles and will be attempting to get some of my artwork published in the coming months.  This is a daunting process for me—I’m a complete chicken—but I think it will be worth it if I can see it through.

permalink For those of you who aren’t fans on Facebook, here’s the completely canvas for the Jacaranda painting I was telling you about.  I really like the way it came out and it was a complete collaboration with the woman who ordered it.  I love working with someone to create a unique work of art.

Tonight’s delicious dinner was Sophisto Joes from Epicurious.com.  I’ve made this many times and it’s really easy and always a big hit with my husband. My son is a little less enthused, but these days he pretty much only wants to eat mac n cheese, so I’m really not surprised.

permalink Well, here’s the preliminary sketch for my latest custom piece. Once I started sketching it out I actually got kind of excited. I think it’s going to come out nice.

Custom Work

Got an e-mail from a woman in California wanting me to create a custom piece for her. She wants me to do an alphabet canvas for her daughter and she wants the subject to be a jacaranda tree. Living in Louisiana, I’ve never seen a Jacaranda tree so some Internet searching was in order. Luckily, both the net and Flickr were full of photographs of the beautiful flowering tree. Now I’m going to do a quick sketch and see if the client likes it.
